Sunday Gravy is a conceptual dinner project dreamed up by artist Jeff Chelf and hosted by members of the community.

A host prepares a meal for 6-8 quests that is inspired by the cooking of their grandparents. For some this is a literal interpretation, using the recipes or maybe even the objects of their family. For others. the meal might represent a fictional ideal of familial cooking.

Sunday Gravy is on one hand looking to the past to consider how our food ways have either been maintained or disrupted. Equally, the meal is an opportunity to look forward - to ask what food traditions we want to carry forward with our family.

For some, Sunday Gravy might bring up challenging memories of displacement, family disputes, or simply a lack of time to cook under the constraints of capitalism. And for others, it may simply be the continuation of uninterrupted tradition. Either way, these meals are a launching point for conversation and community.
